Business Consulting during the crisis

The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic shook the global economy in just a few months and affected fate of many companies. In February and March, most European countries were already struggling with a new threat that had an impact on our daily lives and the way we work. One of the most severe aspects of the new crisis was the slowdown in the economy caused by the closing of most stores, restaurants, service outlets and entertainment centers. Initially, the exception were institutions necessary in our everyday lives such as grocery stores, drugstores and manufacturing plants.

The data however, indicate that the crisis has taken a huge toll on all industries. Despite initial panic and long queues at grocery stores, the FMCG industry also suffered a slowdown caused by a pandemic. Many companies, wanting to limit the risk of uncertainty in the market, immediately began to reduce costs and suspend projects that did not directly affect the company's core business. It all translated into stagnation for several weeks also in IT or consulting.

However, after the initial slowdown and suspension of many activities, it turned out that in IT and consulting companies can find solutions to problems caused by the crisis. The pandemic emphasized all processes that were not working properly or needed to be modernized. As it turned out, one of the main sources of problems in both large corporations and smaller companies are processes based largely on personal contact between employees or the circulation of paper documents. The introduction of a long-term home office has also highlighted the problems of inadequate procedures.

The newly written processes, the introduction of workflow class platforms to the electronic circulation of documents, the addition of new components under existing SAP systems or the automation and robotization of processes, in many cases proved to be beneficial and helped companies prepare for a return to normality. These changes have also shown how important it is to constantly search for better solutions and use modern technologies.
